Will Wynn speaks into microphone at podium in City Hall. Audience fills the room. John is standing to the side of the room in front of a microphone. He plays guitar and sings. After his performance, Will Wynn at podium and John Pointer at standing microphone converse.
Will Wynn: Ok folks it's time for our 5:30 live music gig here at the new Austin City Hall.
Joining us today is John Pointer.
John is a multi-instrumentalist with degrees in music and Italian.
Very Talented Guy. He's produced, performed, and recorded with numerous bands and artists.
He's now performing as a one-man-band singing, beat boxing, rhythm stomping, and playing guitar at the same time.
Please Join me in welcoming John Pointer.
(applause.)
John Pointer: Thank You.
We want to make sure this is all working.
T-T-T-Test.
Can everybody hear me now?
I'm going to back up.
(guitar.)
John Pointer: So I'm going to do a song that only uses about half of what I do because there aren't enough microphones to pick up everything.
Your voice is like a pillow, a little torn at the seams
and it whispers all the secrets I think my heart's been trying to keep from me
and somewhere in that secret is a little bit of you
that tells me where to find it, but won't tell me what to do
and all that I know
all that I know
is One by One
we fall
All for One
and all
One by One
we fall
All for One
and all
Because I found it once, then I fell so hard
I fired off my heart with some kind of blatant disregard
now that part of me is missing
and I think it's missing you
Hey yeah yeah
now what can I do
oh what can I do
if One by One
we fall
All for One
and all
One by One
we fall
all for One
and Oh the ground rushes up
it's all you can see
baby try to fly to me
hey yeah
oh-oo-wooooh-oo
hey yeah
Your voice is like a pillow; your body makes my bed
your secrets tangled recklessly in every word that you've said
now you say that you're afraid to fly, but baby aren't we all?
Doesn't everyone hit bottom? Doesn't everybody crawl?
Now all that I know
Ah-haa-aa-All that I know
is One by One
we fall
All for One
and all
One by One
we fall
all for One
and all
One by One
yeah
One by One
One by One
(Applause.)
John Pointer: Thank you.
Will Wynn: So John tell us where can we hear you next? Can you buy a CD? Do you have a website? What's the deal?
John Pointer: Well, you can barely walk down the street without running into a poster or something.
I play every Thursday at Cedar Street, every Friday at Cedar Street, and every Tuesday at Lucky Lounge.
You can find all that information at johnpointer.com.
The CD is of course available at Waterloo.
There is a new CD being produced right now and you can find out about fundraising at that website, johnpointer.com.
And... I guess that's all I need to say right now.
Will Wynn: Before you get away we have a proclamation that reads "Be it known that whereas the local music community makes many contributions toward the development of Austin's social, economic, and cultural diversity; and whereas the dedicated efforts of artists like John further Austin's status as Live Music Capital of the World; now, therefore, I Will Wynn, Mayor of the City of Austin, Texas do hereby proclaim today, January 27, 2005 as John Pointer Day, in Austin and call on all citizens to join me in recognizing this great talent."
(Applause.)
John Pointer: Thank You.
